Forensics in Nuclear Security
An integrated international response to nuclear terrorism
One future scenario that most people prefer not to think about is an attack by terrorists, criminals or ‘rogue’ states using a nuclear device or radioactive materials. We rely on nuclear scientists, forensic scientists, law enforcement agents and our intelligence services to prevent such an attack, or – if it should nonetheless occur – to minimize damage, injury and disruption, and to track down those responsible as quickly as possible.
Working together effectively
It is therefore important that these groups of professionals are fully prepared to take on this task. As part of an international effort, the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) is coordinating a project called Forensics in Nuclear Security – Sharing Knowledge, designed to make it easier for the various experts involved in this field to work together as effectively as possible.
